My Father, Thomas Tippin, and his cousin, Sam Haden, both were at Pearl Harbor when the Japanese attacked. My Dad was with the U.S. Navy Mobile Hospital #2 and Sam was stationed aboard the Arizona. Unfortunately, Sam did not make it off the ship and is entombed on the Arizona. My Dad would not talk about the attack and even when I visited the Arizona Memorial in 1977, he did not tell me about his cousin. I discovered the information years later when doing genealogy.
